What’s in the water?

So when you get baptized, what’s so special about that water? Nothing.

Baptism is symbolic. It is a time where we are followers of Jesus get to go public with our faith. Saying that we want to live for Him forever.

You sitting in the water represents your “old life” and when you go under and come back up it symbolizes the washing away of your sins. That as you go into that water your old self has died and you are ready to live a new life for Jesus. That He has saved you and washed you clean!

Because Jesus died on the cross and rose again, we get to rise from the water BRAND NEW!

Romans 6:3-4 (NIV): “Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

Baptisms don’t save you. Baptism is something you do because Jesus saved you. To show that you are walking new and living for Jesus.

Although it is symbolic, it is beautiful. It represents the beauty of what the Lord does in us. How He can save us and change our whole life. It is a testimony. It is being bold with your faith. It shows others what the Lord can do!

We are called to be baptized and to baptize others in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. To not just experience this for ourselves, but to go out and what people give their lives to Jesus and be baptized. To watch them wash their sin, guilt, pain, shame, and past away.

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV): “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Maybe you feel like baptism is your next step in your walk with Jesus. Don’t hold back. Don’t hide what Jesus has done in your life. Step out in faith!

We all start somewhere. ♡ Savannah
